Top three break away from pack


Tysons East, Inglewood and Naumai are the front runners in Taranaki’s premier netball after three rounds of competition play.

All three teams picked up strong wins on Thursday night and are in contention to make the semi-finals.

The fourth position will be hotly contested between New Plymouth Old Boys and Tysons West.

In Stratford, Naumai made a statement after it beat Old Boys 74-38 at the TET Stadium.

Its win was set up in the opening quarter as Naumai got out to a healthy 21-10 lead.

Goal defender Taylor Gilberd and goal keep Atalia Commbe disrupted Old Boys ball inside their own half and moved the ball down the other end of the court.

Naumai’s midcourt was tight throughout the game as Old Boys struggled to penetrate the circle.

Coach Vicki Roberts had the luxury of making several positional changes after half time with a 43-21 and 59-31 lead.

Naumai’s goal shoot Taylah Kahui scored 66 goals, only missing six completing a solid performance.

In the circle for Old Boys, Bronte Hill scored 25 goals and Sherrie Gwerder shot 22.

Tysons East continued its winning stream and beat Tysons West 74-41 on Thursday night.

The win keeps East at the top of the competition table.

Inglewood beat New Plymouth Girls High School 70-32.

In Premier Two action, top of the table sides Naumai and Sacred Heart Girls’ College drew 46-all in an intense match.

Stratford/Eltham won 54-32 against Tukapa and Raukura played their best game of the year pipping Inglewood 54-53.

In Premier Three, Stratford/Eltham beat competition leaders Bell Block Marist Dragons 53-46. The loss is Bell Block’s first in competition play after winning its last two matches.

Inglewood High School beat The Locals 55-50 and Hawera High School beat Inglewood 49-37.

This week, all premier teams will play on either Thursday or Friday and back up on Sunday to make up for the round missed due to Alert Level Two in mid-August.
