About Tamara Knapman
Tamara Knapman is a sport development leader with a strong focus on empowering women and girls. She previously served Triathlon New Zealand’s as the Women and Girls Lead, working remotely from Taranaki. Her journey began in 2016 with the founding of the Manawatu Triathlon Academy, supporting young athletes to reach their potential.
In 2023, Tamara was selected for the Women in High Performance Sport Residency Experience, where she deepened her understanding of leadership in sport, including insights from netball—a predominantly female, team-based sport. This experience highlighted the transferability of her skills across codes and strengthened her commitment to athlete wellbeing and gender equity.
Tamara has led national initiatives to grow female participation and coaching in triathlon, developed the TRINZ Healthy Female Athlete module, and created a coach accreditation system to support female health awareness. Her cross-code experience continues to shape her vision for inclusive, athlete-centred sport environments.
