Shoe Clinic Tysons East is chasing six consecutive titles when it meets Naumai in the premier one final at the TSB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The record run of form, under previous coach Che Tamati, was never seen before in the competition and that record can get even better.
In the repeat of last year’s final, new coach Jane Parker-Bishop said the side built up a good team culture in what has been a tumultuous year for most.
“And we turn up every week because Tysons’ environment is exceptional.”
The side only lost two matches this season and that was a grading round. Parker-Bishop wasn’t worried about the early losses and said it was a round of information gathering to devise a strategy for the championship round.
The second round for was down to good synergy, she said.
“We mahi hard for each other and sing from the same hymn book.”
With such a strong team full of depth, Parker-Bishop said the side’s jobs are supported by one another.
“You cannot be a superstar without superstars around you, supporting you in your position.”
Wing attack Nikita Roberts and defender Rhiannon Utton are form players for Tysons.
“Nikita is incredibly dynamic and a wonderful pillar in the midcourt. Rihannon works tirelessly for her team. She brings the kaha.”
Parker-Bishop said Naumai will bring a game in what will be a great contest.
“We’ve been doing this with them for a few years now and it’s never easy.”
Naumai captain Heidi Kahupukoro said last week’s extra time semi-final against Inglewood gave the side a major boost.
During the season, Kahupukoro said it’s been a tough season without having a consistent line up.
“I don’t think we have had a game yet where everyone has been available to play. Credit to all the girls on making it this far as we’ve had quite a few out of position.”
Naumai lost one match in grading and two during the championship rounds.
Kahupukoro said the final is anyone’s and Naumai needs to stick to their basics.
“We need to score off our own and be clinical in attack and ensure we stick to our structures.”
Centre pass is at 4pm.
